Mr. Tim Parker, 70, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
He was born Nov. 3, 1945, in Gilmer County to the late Clayton and Jean Osborne Parker. He graduated from Gilmer High School, class of 1964. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy and later worked for the State of Georgia Department of Transportation until his retirement.
He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, enjoyed playing bluegrass music and was an award-winning banjo player, having played with a number of different groups over the years.
He is survived by wife, Mary Ruth Plumley Parker; daughters and son-in-law, Amy and Eric Maddox, Amanda Parker, all of Ellijay; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Eddie Ellington, of Ellijay; brother, Ken Parker, of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Bethany Purcell and Timothy Maddox; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. John Bramlett officiating.
Music was by Hoss Walker, Junior White, Barry Abernathy, Keith Ledford and Russell Walker.
Pallbearers were Eric Maddox, Timothy Maddox, Robby Clayton, Ronnie Clayton, Mickey Starks and Matthew Starks.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Ellington, Claude Mayfield, Larry Chesnut, Sam Ward, Jim Barnett, Larry Couter and Jack Chadwick.
Interment was in the Flat Creek Church Cemetery with graveside rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
