Tamra Gale Parsons Yong Acree

Tamra Gale Parsons Yong Acree, of Ellijay, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017.

She was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Goshen, Ind., to the late Beatrice and Walter Parsons. She was a 1958 graduate of Plant High School in Tampa, Fla., and a 1961 graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing.

Her long nursing career began with years on the maternal child floors and included 22 years of nursing professorship at Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing and DeKalb College (now Perimeter). Along the way, she returned to School to finish her bachelor’s of nursing at Tift College and master’s in Maternal Child at Medical College of Georgia. Always striving to further her education, she returned to Georgia State in 1995 to obtain a post master’s pediatric nurse practitioner certification. After retirement as a pediatric nurse practitioner at North Cobb Pediatrics, she took additional course work to become a certified faith community nurse and volunteered as parish nurse at Ellijay First United Methodist Church.

She was married to the late Dr. Kai C. Yong from 1961-1988 and had three children. She and Kai traveled the world visiting his family in Malaysia and other wonders of the world.

In 2004, she married Warren Acree, of Ellijay, and they continued her love for traveling. Dividing their time between Tampa, Fla., and their home in Ellijay, they were both active at Ellijay FUMC and Oakhurst UMC in Seminole, Fla.

She is preceded in death by siblings, Brenda Parsons Hanes and Walter Parsons Jr.

She is survived by husband, Warren Acree; children, Kailynn Yong Boomer (Doug Boomer), Waylon Yong (Merle Soodyall Yong), Teilynn Yong Ivey (Dallas Ivey); stepsons John Acree, David Acree (Angelica Acree); and grandchildren, Curran, Kenny, Kailey, Alayna, Bryson, Adelyn, Dash, Jane and Alexis.

Visitation for Tamra will be Friday, Nov. 10, at Bernhardt Funeral Home, 163 River Street, from 4-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at the Ellijay First United Methodist, 75 McCutchen Street, with Dr. Thom Shore, the Rev. Gill McGinnis and the Rev. Alan Tarr officiating.

Internment will be in Tampa, Fla., Dec. 15, 2017.
