Ruth Marie Hyatt Caudell, 83, of Ellijay, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021. 

She was born Nov. 5, 1937, to the late Seth Luther and Mattie Lee Quarles Hyatt in Ellijay.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ellijay. She graduated from Gilmer High School, class of 1954, earned her bachelor’s degree in 1958 from North Georgia College and went on to receive her master’s degree and Leadership certification from West Georgia College. 

She was a teacher and administrator for many years with the Gilmer County School System. 

She is preceded in death by husband, Talmadge “Tam” Caudell; brother, James Harold Hyatt; and sister-in-law, Cathy W. Hyatt. 

She is survived by daughters, Stephanie Lynn Caudell and Kim Turner, of Adairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Barry Cagle, of Ellijay; grandchildren, Seth Hyatt Wimpey, Mattie Virginia Cagle, Griffin Douglas Cagle, Gena (Jason) Farmer; great- grandchildren, Kenna Stacy Wimpey, Kota Samuel Wimpey, Kaden Seth Wimpey, Cooper Farmer, Weston Farmer, Kensie Farmer; sister, Patricia Hyatt Henson, of Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law, John L. and Eurilla Hyatt, of Jasper; and brother, Douglas “Doug” Hyatt, of Ellijay.

A private funeral service will be held at Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sid Webb officiating. 

Interment will follow at Hyatt Family Cemetery, Ellijay.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Logan Funeral Home.
