Roddy Hayward Thomas
Mr. Roddy Hayward Thomas, 70, of Ellijay, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
He was born Dec. 7, 1945, in Alpharetta to the late John Lewis Thomas and Myrtie Phillips Thomas. He was a member of Cartecay Baptist Church and served honorably in the United States Army as a staff sergeant. He went on to work for the United States Postal Service where he retired as a supervisor. He also served for seven years as the president of the Georgia Association of Postal Supervisors.
He is survived by wife, Leslie Barker Thomas; daughters and sons-in-law, Tabby and Robert Sapp, of Dacula, Shondra and Alonso Romero, of Decatur, Bonnie and Alan Puckett, of Dacula, and Marta Thomas and Jason Banister, of Woodstock; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Terese Thomas, of Smyrna; grandchildren, Hannah Puckett, Megan Sapp, Eli Puckett, Alondra Romero, and Abigail Puckett; sister, Lautrell Thomas Gardner, of Alpharetta; and nephews, Gregory Gardner and Jon Gardner.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, from the chapel of Logan Funeral Home with the Rev. John Bramlett officiating.
Music was by Susan Hoschkins and Maggie McDonald.
Pallbearers were Charlie Edmondson, Frank Fordham, John Hiscox, Dan Lehr, Bobby Bradford, Steve Jenkins, Greg Altman and Wayne Hooper.
A military graveside service immediately followed in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military graveside rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gilmer County Historical Society, P.O. Box 221, Ellijay, GA 30540, in memory of Mr. Thomas.
