Robert “Bob” Shapleigh Matthews
Mr. Robert “Bob” Shapleigh Matthews, 71, of Talking Rock, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016.
He was born March 1, 1945, in East Hartford, Conn., to the late Leo L. and Anna C. Matthews. After graduating from Northeastern University in Boston in 1968, he was employed by GE Capital for over 30 years. After retiring from GE Capital, he was a partner at Paladin Associates, a cost-reduction consulting company.
He was an active member of the Talking Rock community since 2005. He served as a deacon and finance chairman at the Cherry Log Christian Church and president and treasurer of the Mountain Creek Hollow homeowner’s association. He enjoyed hiking, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by wife, Emily Matthews; three daughters, Cynthia (Andy) Wolverton and Cheryl (David) Ani, both of Crofton, Md., and Janice (Peter) Sellis, of Chicago, Ill; five grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Matthews, of Hebron, Conn.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. from the Cherry Log Christian Church with Dr. Robin Norsworthy and Dr. Paul Pryor officiating.
Music was by Birdie Towle.
Private interment was in Yukon Cemetery.
