Mrs. Vertalee Vernell Weatherby
Mrs. Vertalee Vernell Weatherby, 95, of Smyrna, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at her home.
She was born in Pisgah Jan. 31, 1922. She grew up in Pickens County and was a long-time resident of Smyrna. She retired from Lockheed Corporation after many dedicated years of service.
Her smile was infectious; she was a master at card games and engaged her grandchildren for many hours teaching them to play canasta, hearts or Rook. She was beloved by her many friends and would insist you come to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of sweet tea on her outdoor deck. She enjoyed hosting family functions while sharing her love for southern cooking. Collard greens, fried okra and cornbread were staples in her warm and sunny kitchen.
She is preceded in death by husband, Russell Maynard Weatherby; and first husband, Johnny William Little.
She is survived by daughters, Vera Adcock (Donald), Brenda Buckley (Neil) , Joan Gilliland (Ron); grandchildren, Mark, Landra (Todd), Keith (Cindy), Candace (Vance), Richie (Lisa), Leah (Mark), Kathryn (Blake) and Rachel; sister, Bobby Bethel (Doyle); 13 loved great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, in the Jonquil Chapel of Castellaw Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamie Auton officiating.
Burial will be in Georgia Memorial Cemetery.
