Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Jean Bates Roper, 86, of Cherry Log, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at her residence. 

She was born Feb. 28, 1933, to the late James Barney and Essie Loujean Rogers Bates, in Ellijay.

She was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church since 1949 and worked as a nursing assistant at the Gilmer Nursing Home for many years. 

She is preceded in death by husband, Winston B. Roper; sisters, Lillian Bates, Gusty Key and Ruth Hagan; and brothers, J.B. Bates and Otis Bates.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Sandi and Larry Davis, of Blue Ridge, Holly and Steve Tinker, of Ellijay; son, Bryan Roper, of Cherry Log; grandchildren, Saylor Tinker, Morgan Tinker and Karen Davis; special niece, Judy Parks; sister-in-law, Patricia Lamanac, of Woodstock; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, from  Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Gilbert, the Rev. Kenny Hagin and the Rev. Jeff Hollifield officiating. 

Music will be by the Rock Creek Baptist Church Choir, Barry Abernathy and Lowell Davis. 

Graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Morgan Tinker, Saylor Tinker, Steve Tinker, Greg Halleck, Mark Hice, Avery Hice, Dennis Evans and Keith Stephens.

Flowers are accepted or donations can be made to Compassus Hospice, 583 Highland Crossing, Suite 120, Ellijay, GA 30540, in memory of Mrs. Roper.
