Mr. Michael Hosea Karr, 66, of Ellijay, died Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.

He was born in Coral Gables, Fla., Jan. 20, 1956, to the late Hosea G. Karr and Charlotte Louise Karr. He was a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps serving from April 1976 to April 1980. During his time in the Marines he was a crew chief on a CH-53 and was part of Operation Eagle Claw.

He worked as a school bus driver for Gilmer County Schools. He was an honorary coach and bus driver for Gilmer County Wrestling, driving the team to win the state championship from 2010 to 2016, and continuing to drive them through 2020.

He was a Christian, proud husband, father and pawpaw, who loved nothing more than spending time with his family who loved listening to his stories and jokes even if he told the same ones over and over. He was an exceptional man and will be truly missed by so many.

He is preceded in death by mother and father, Hosea and Charlotte Karr; sister, Pamela Kaelin; and nephew, David Glenn Guy.

He is survived by loving wife of 36 years, Sherri Karr; son, Justin Karr; daughter-in-law, Hannah Karr; grandsons, Cainan and Kayson Karr, all of Ellijay; brother-in-law, Gary Hinton, of North Port, Fla.; nieces, Jennifer Kaelin, Amber Parson, of Cumming, Daphne Phillips (LCPL Ken Phillips), of Flowery Branch; nephews, Derek Kaelin (Celeste), of Miami, Fla., Donald Parson (Stephanie), of Jasper; and a brotherhood of Marines.

Funeral services were held at noon Saturday, June 11,  2022, at Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Wheeler officiating.

Interment was in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay.
