Lucius Brockenborough “Brokey” Gravely IV passed away in his sleep at his home in Jacksonville, Fla., Tuesday, Nov. 12. 

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Marcia Booth Gravely; and daughters, Heather Anne Gravely, of Jacksonville and Brittany Belle Gravely, of Boston, Mass. 

“Brokey” or “Luke,” as many knew him, was born in Gainesville, Fla., March 15, 1945, and moved with his family to Archer, Fla., in 1954. He was a lifelong Presbyterian of Scottish heritage.  

  He attended Sidney Lanier Elementary, Buchholz Junior High School and Gainesville High School. He played violin as a member of the Gainesville Youth Orchestra. He graduated from King College in Bristol, Tenn. After graduation he attended air traffic control school and became an air traffic controller. While working at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Ill., he became the president of PATCO, the Professional Air Traffic Controller’s Organization. He resided in Ellijay, while working for Tuxedo Glass in Atlanta.

He recently retired and was enjoying time with his family. He fulfilled a bucket list item recently when he bought a red 1966 Ford Mustang convertible. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Meghan Gravely Roberts, of Oakland, Calif.; parents, Lucius Brockenborough III “LB” and Josephine McNeill Gravely, of Archer, Fla. 

He leaves behind brothers, John (Charlene) Gravely, of Ellijay, and McDiarmid “Mac” (Celia) Gravely, of Yulee, Fla.; sisters, Clara (Bill) Driebe, of Gainesville, Fla., and Jogi (Paul) Mauger, of Jonesboro; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nephews and a great-great-niece.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Fla.
