Leonard Howard Abercrombie

Mr. Leonard Howard Abercrombie, 81, of Ellijay, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, at Parkside Nursing Home in Ellijay.

He was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Gilmer County, to the late Richard Abercrombie and Lorena Smith Abercrombie.

He worked at Galaxy Carpet for over 25 years and was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church. His purpose in life was to love and care for his family. He loved God and Sunday mornings at Clear Creek with family and friends. For fun, he enjoyed a game of monopoly and cards with sons.

He is preceded in death by son, Mitchell Abercrombie, and brothers, Clyde Abercrombie, Roy Abercrombie, Herman Abercrombie, Otis Abercrombie and Hoyt Abercrombie.

He is survived by wife, Betty Jean Evans Abercrombie; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Tonya Abercrombie and Scotty and Karla Abercrombie, all of Ellijay; brother, James Abercrombie; sisters, Rosa Lee Burgess, Elsie Kowitz and Mattie Hood; grandchildren, Dawson Abercrombie and Dylan Abercrombie; and numerous friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, from the Clear Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. James Abercrombie, the Rev. Scott Chastain and the Rev. Russell Hood officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Farist, Brent Sanford, Dawson Abercrombie, Dylan Abercrombie, Trent Jackson and Michael McClure.

Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
