Mr. John Gordon Corkedale Jr., 86, of Ellijay, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at Northside Cherokee Hospital. 

He was born in Newburg, N.Y., to the late John G. Sr. and Marie Corkedale. 

He was a career U.S. Airforce veteran. He served 14 years in Strategic Air Command under General Curtis Lemay as crew chief for the B-47 Bomber. Following SAC, he served with TAC and spent a year in Vietnam, and retired after 20 years as MSgt. Following his military service, he worked with Sears and retired following 20 years of service. 

He was a member of the Cartecay Baptist Church. 

He is preceded in death by first wife of 38 years, Jean Gautreau Corkedale; and daughter, Deborah Jean Martin. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, from Cartecay Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Hall and the Rev. Tom Jordan officiating. 

Music will be by Susan Hochkins and Joan Bradford. 

A military graveside interment will follow in the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. 

Pallbearers will be John Rapson, John Slim, Bobby Bradford, Rich Emkey, Whit Garnett, John Elder and Haven Thomason.

He is survived by wife of 24 years, Sarah Lyle Corkedale; daughters and son-in-law, Donna C. Bridges, of Pooler, Rebecca and Chris Harder, of Taos, N.M., Kimberly Anderson, of Gainesville, Melinda A. Garnett, of Dawsonville; son, Thomas Anderson, of Valdosta; grandchildren, Samantha Reed, of Alaska, Sarah Peavy, of New York, N.Y., Ashley Bruce, of Dahlonega and Whit Garnett, of Dawsonville; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from noon until the service at 2 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 16, at the Cartecay Baptist Church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cartecay Baptist Church, 118 Riverwood Road, Ellijay, GA 30536, in memory of Mr. Corkedale.
