John ‘Johnny’ Anderson Holmes
Mr. John “Johnny” Anderson Holmes, 74, of Ellijay, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017.
He was born Sept. 10, 1943, in Ellijay, to the late Dewey Sampson Holmes and Bernice Louise Nelson Dillard.
He graduated from Gilmer High School, class of 1961, and attended North Georgia College. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and worked for many years as a claims manager for Blue Ridge Carpet.
He loved quarter horses and served as president of the Gilmer County Saddle Club for many years.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jarrod and Misa Holmes, of Canton; grandson, Calvin Holmes, of Canton; sister, Jan Dillard Langford, of Chatsworth; brother, Gilbert Lee Dillard, of Chatsworth; and cousin, John Nelson of Ellijay.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Smith and Donald Reece officiating.
Music was by the Rev. Irene Wofford.
A military graveside service immediately followed in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Interment was in the Ellijay City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a local humane society in memory of Mr. Holmes.
