Mr. James Carey “Slugger” Strawbridge, 66, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at his residence.

He was born May 29, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Orman “Straw” Strawbridge and Betty Jean Christian.

He was a graduate of Gilmer High School, class of 1974, a deputy for the Gilmer County Sherriff’s Office, and proudly served our country in the United States Marines. He was  a member of Harvest Missionary Church.

He is preceded in death by stepfather, Richard Faricelli.

He is survived by wife, Beth Strawbridge; stepmother, Sharon Strawbridge Dooley, of Ellijay; son, Cody Strawbridge, of Indiana; daughters, Megan (Dylan) O’Neal, of Iowa and Haley Strawbridge (Zach Hamilton), of Ellijay; step-sons, Patrick Evans, of Texas and Matthew (Stacey) Callahan, of Oregon; sisters, Debra (David) Dickenson, of Marietta and Pam (Kelly) Robertson, of Texas; and grandchildren, Madison, Kayde, Cayce, Carson, Wyatt, Narayan and Carolee.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Harvest Missionary Chruch with the Rev. Glen Arnold officiating.

Interment was in the Yukon Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Totherow, Andy Morgan, James Worley, Eric Maddox, Terry Nealey, Norman Chastain, Carroll Chastain and Tommy Totherow.

Honorary pallbearers were  David Totherow, Richard Farist, Pat Shelton and Bryson Totherow.

Donations can be made to the Yukon Cemetery in honor of Mr. Strawbridge.

Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
