James A. “Gus” Cochran
Mr. James A. “Gus” Cochran, 93, of Ellijay, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016.
He was born April 15, 1922, in Cobb County, to the late Chalmus Lawrence and Eva Mae Stanford Cochran. He retired as a railway postal clerk, was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and a member of the Blue Ridge Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by son, Robin James Cochran; brother, Chalmus Cochran Jr.; and sister, Evelyn Cochran Neighbors.
He is survived by wife, Polly Witt Cochran; son and daughter-in-law, David and Angele Ballew Cochran, of Ellijay; brothers; Luther E. Cochran, of Douglasville, Alton L. Cochran, of Covington, sister; Jane Arey, of Virginia; grandchildren, Holly Cochran Collier, Caleb Cochran, Joshua Cochran, great-grandchildren, Macey and Quinn Collier; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Minister Lonnie Jones Jr., Joshua Cochran and Ken White officiating.
Music was led by Barry Kingsley.
Pallbearers were Nathan Collier, Quinn Collier, Lonnie Jones Sr., Sonny Pinyan, David Chapman and Bob Pugh.
Interment was in the Ellijay Church of Christ Cemetery with military rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
