Mrs. Gladys Long, 84, of Ellijay, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022.

She was born Sept. 20, 1937, in Tabasco, Mexico.

She held many jobs over the course of her life. She worked as an airline stewardess at Air France, where she met Robert Long and immigrated to the U.S. They settled in Savannah, where she hosted her own arts and craft show on a local TV program. They then moved to Stone Mountain, where she worked in the picture framing business for two decades. She later moved to Ellijay, and worked at the local Walmart as a greeter for 10 years.

In her spare time, she worked with several outreach programs. She was a cancer survivor and dedicated her life to helping others with their own survivor journeys, volunteering with Bosom Buddies and other cancer foundations.

One of her other joys was participating in the Ms. Georgia Senior pageants for over nine years. In 2018, she had the pleasure of winning the  title of Ms. Southwest Georgia Senior.

She had a heart of gold and was always dependable and gave so much more than she received. She was a member of Good Samaritan Catholic Church for over 15 years and was a member of the Classic Club and the Red Hats society.

She is preceded in death by husband, Robert E. Long; brothers, Petey and Johnny; and a younger sister.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Good Samaritan Catholic Church.

She is survived by children, Audrey Long, of Gainesville, Robert J. Long, of McDonough, and Grace Cristo, of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren, Gypsy Black, Danita Long, Zachery Long, Brannon Long, Madison Long, and Priscilla Greene; great-grandchildren, German Greene, Brigitte Greene, Julianne Greene, Chance Long, Christian Connolly and Castiel Dinsmore.; and brothers, Sony and Roberto, of Mexico.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Good Samaritan Catholic Church.
