Mr. George Randy Meeks, 70, of Buford, formerly of Ellijay, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at Piedmont Atlanta.

He was born May 24, 1949, in Gainesville, to the late Leonard B. and Virgie Oshields Meeks. 

He was a graduate of Gilmer High School, class of 1969, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the American Legion and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Butch Jones officiating. 

Military honors were in the Logan Funeral Home pavilion with rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard and SCV Camp #89 Gilmer Light Guards. 

Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mark Chitwood, Robert Meeks, Jeremy Meeks, Dewayne Green, James Jones, Austin Lummus and Jeremiah Tatum.

He is survived by daughter, Kristin Meeks, of Buford; grandchildren, James Lewis Jones, Jeremiah George Tatum, and Kayleigh Tatum; sister, Faye Jean Olsin, of Gainesville; brother, Bobby Meeks, of Ellijay; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that donations be made to the American Legion, 297 Legion Rd., Ellijay, GA 30540, the Sons of Confederate Veterans or to the Gilmer County Historical Society, 138 Spring St., Ellijay, GA 30540, in memory of Mr. Meeks.
