Ernest Edward Donaldson Jr.
Mr. Ernest Edward Donaldson Jr., 84, of Ellijay, died Tuesday Sept. 27, 2016, at the Kindred Hospital in Rome.
He was born Aug. 21, 1932, in McCaysville, to Ernest Edwin Donaldson Sr. and Jessie Roberta Dunagan Donaldson.
He was a member of the Nine Mile United Methodist Church. He graduated from McCaysville High School, class of 1949, and served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He attended Georgia Tech and received his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1958, and master of science degree in electrical engineering in 1964. He retired from the Georgia Tech Research Institute as a principal research engineer.
He is survived by wife of over 36 years, Susan O’Neal Bowden Donaldson, daughters and sons-in-law, Lori Lynn Donaldson, of Greenville, S.C., Susan Beth and Bo Pyskir, of Naperville, Ill., and Margaret Ann and David Purcell, of Grayson; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sandra Bowden, of Roswell, and Dr. John and Melissa Bowden, of Bishop; grandchildren, Megan Patton, Lauren Purcell and Courtney Purcell, Larisa Pyskir, Rebecca Bowden, Maura Bowden, Rachel Bowden and Sarah Bowden, Nicholas Pyskir, Andrew Pyskir and Matthew Pyskir, and Taylor Bowden; nieces, Susan Bartlett, Laurel Bailey and Ashley Heldman; nephew, Franklin Wiggins; sister, Hilda Donaldson Bailey, of McCaysville.
He is preceded in death by sister, Jane Donaldson Wiggins.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, from the Nine Mile United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Burcham and the Rev. Larry Naylor officiating. Music was by Kim Myers and George McClellan.
Military graveside rites immediately followed the service at the church and were performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Graveside inurnment followed at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
