Our beloved Eloise Virginia Fricke died Friday, Oct. 16, 2020. 

She was born the fifth of six children to Eskey and Martha Fitzwater Nov. 18, 1925. She married Edward Gabriel in 1942, and had two children, Edward Gabriel Jr. and Gabrielle Cornett. 

She sang and taught Sunday school, was a secretary at Spaulding China and later at Babcock and Wilcox. She and her family moved to Warren, Ohio, in 1962, where she was a secretary at Van Huffle Corp. 

In 1967, she married Abie Bates and lived in Warren seven more years. “Ellie” moved to New Jersey in 1974 and married Harry Fricke. She managed Bramblewood Apartments for three years. Harry and Ellie moved to a country house in Pennsylvania in 1977. There they kept horses and English sheep dogs, created beautiful gardens and hosted lovely parties. After Harry’s passing, she moved to Allentown, Pa., where she gardened, collected antiques and made beautiful quilts and dolls. 

She moved to Ellijay in 2014 to live with her daughter. In 2017, she moved to Cameron Hall in Ellijay; and in 2019, she moved to Parkside Ellijay after three hip surgeries. 

She is survived by son, Edward Gabriel Jr.; daughter, Gabrielle Cornett; grandsons and granddaughters, Moses Mooney, Catherine Gabriel, Ishi Cornett, John Cornett and Matthew Cornett; 12 great-grandchildren; stepson, David Fricke; stepdaughter, Liz Sheltra; niece, Martha Rose Smith; and great-niece, Kathy Stone. 

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at Ellijay First United Methodist Church.
