Dr. Hal Fisher Stolz Sr., 85, of Ellijay, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2019. 

He was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Columbia, S.C. He was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy, class of 1952, and the University of Georgia Veterinarian School in 1958. 

He retired honorably from the U.S. Army as a veterinarian with 20 years of service. 

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ellijay. 

He had a passion for swimming and held two world records, multiple national records and was a member of the Georgia Aquatic Hall of Fame. 

His first wife Virginia (Pinson) Stolz preceded him in death. 

He is survived by wife of eight years, Luellen O. Stolz; sons and daughters-in-law, Hal Fisher Stolz Jr. and Edye Stolz, of Washington, Ill., Edward Pinson Stolz and Angie Stolz, of Ellijay; grandchildren, Ashlyn and Sean Sargent, Hank Stolz, Matt Stolz, Zack Stolz, Caroline Stolz, Levi Stolz, Alex Stolz, Jacob Stolz, Jackson Stolz and Luke Stolz; great-grandchild, Charlotte Sargent; and brother, Irwin “Yutch” and Mary Bell Stolz, of Charlotte, N.C.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, from the First United Methodist Church of Ellijay with Dr. Thom Shores and the Rev. Allan Tarr officiating. 

A private graveside service will be held at the Ellijay City Cemetery at a later date. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 75 McCutchen Street, Ellijay, GA 30540, in memory of Dr. Stolz.
