Charles Edward ‘Ed’ Burgess
Mr. Charles Edward “Ed” Burgess, 80, of Ellijay, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.
He was born June 27, 1937, in Gilmer County, to the late Harvey and Myrtle Starks Burgess. He worked for the Gilmer County Board of Education as a bus driver 27 years and operated Absolutely Country Restaurant for a number of years.
He was a member of the Agape Church in St. Marys.
He is preceded in death by wife, Bobbie Burgess.
He is survived by children and spouses, Hugh Burgess, Daniel and Gwen Burgess, all of Ellijay, Andrea and Charles Shoemaker, of Jasper; stepson and spouse, Andy and Alicia Macaulay; mother of the children, Louise Stewart, of Jasper; sisters, Betty Jean Sanford, Kathie Banks, both of Ellijay, Johnnie Ann Gaskill, of Thomaston; special niece, Diane Burgess; special nephew, Eddie Burgess; grandchildren, Derik Mullinax, Laranda Gienapp, Christopher Shoemaker, Christina Shoemaker, Courtney Esposito, Brook Burgess, Andrew Burgess, Melody Dannahoe, Brittney Burgess, Austin Burgess; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Burgess and the Rev. Brondy Davis officiating.
Music was by the Clayton Family.
Pallbearers were Andrew Burgess, Bradley Burgess, Austin Burgess, Dakota Burgess, Derik Mullinax and Christopher Shoemaker.
Interment was in the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery.
