Billy “Bill” Wayne Davis, Sept. 5, 1939-Aug. 31, 2020.

As a young man, Bill dreamed of driving race cars. In the mid-1960’s he got the opportunity to drive stock cars. After a short time, he got an invitation to drive in the NASCAR arena but having a young family he declined.

Bill had a great love of music and singing. He played several instruments: harmonica, guitar, doghouse bass and electric bass, all self-taught. His guitar was the musical accompaniment for our first trio, The Spiritualaires, for quite awhile. He also filled in with other groups when they were short a musician.

For a number of years Bill owned and operated a successful automotive cooling and heating system business: Bill’s Radiator Shop in Cobb County. Following the sale of the business and moving back to Gilmer County, he enjoyed his retirement by woodcrafting, making new friends, re-connecting with old friends; serving his church as an ordained Baptist deacon, traveling and singing with the Gospel Melody Trio and DJing at WLJA radio station for Ms. Rucker. In the community, he was affectionately known as the mayor of Pleasant Valley. He was also an active Mason for many years.

Our singing ministry with The Spirtualaires/Gospel Melody Trio culminated in 35-plus years of travel serving the Lord, seeing people saved, redeemed and blessed.

Bill was a very talented and inventive person. He was also a loving husband and dad to our two children, a neighbor and friend in the truest sense. He loved to laugh, joke and see people happy. He loved old cars, his little red truck and fast motorcyles. The sound of a Harley bike was music to his ears.

He was an honorable man who loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart. The last 11 years of Bill’s life was painridden and of declining health yet he trusted God in all things. Not implying he was a perfect person, as none of us are on this Earth, nor that our 62 years did not suffer ups and downs, but our trust in God and our love for each other was the glue that held everything together.
