Andrew “Andy” A.E. Stephens
Mr. Andrew “Andy” A.E. Stephens, 69, of Blairsville, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Ellijay, March 10, 1946, to the late Andrew Everette Stephens and the late Ava Fowler Stephens. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of sergeant. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Deborah Jones. The two of them made quite a team and were local business owners in Blairsville for over 40 years. He was also a board member of the Wilderness Scouts. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Stephens, Charles Stephens and Quinton Stephens.
He is survived by loving wife, Deborah; son and daughter-in-law, Andretti and Cassie Stephens, of Blairsville; grandson, Tyree Mackey; special niece, Olivia Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Pauline Stephens, of Jasper; sister, Winnie Gibson; brother, Jasper Stephens; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Lupita Stephens, all of Ellijay; sister-in-law, Helen Stephens, of Ellijay; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Minister Butch Jones officiating. Military honors were conferred by North Georgia Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Charlie Hinson, Tyree Mackey, Casey Jones, Darren Jones, Sam McCrickard and Charles Brackett.
Honorary escorts to the family were Paul Nealey, Hubert Richards, Ronnie Dale, Olivia Jones and Roy Smith.
Interment was in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, at 1 p.m. Thursday. Visitation at the funeral home was held Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.
