Homeland Security involved in child porn arrest
An Ellijay man was arrested for possession of child pornography and manufacturing marijuana in the first week of the new year, authorities said.
Dwayne Edward Godfrey, 52, of 131 Penland St., was charged Jan. 5 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with sexual exploitation of a child, felony manufacture of marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, reporting violations and forfeiture.
Nelly Miles, director of the Office of Public Affairs for the GBI, said agencies involved in Godfrey’s arrest included the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, Ellijay Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations.
“What occurred was that one of our special agents had initiated an investigation back in September ... (and on) Friday, Jan. 5, there was a search warrant that was executed at his residence,” she said. “As a result of that warrant, he was arrested after he was found in possession of child pornography.”
Godfrey remained in the county jail Tuesday on a bond of $32,500, according to a spokeswoman.
