‘Citizen of the Year’ ballots being accepted
Started in 1986 with Gene Jones being the first recipient, the Gilmer County Citizen of the Year (COTY): A Lifetime Achievement Award, has been awarded annually since. Ralph Cox was selected as the 2016 Citizen of the Year, adding his name to a very prestigious list.
Ballots are now available for the 2017 Gilmer County Citizen of the Year. This award will be given to a deserving person who has given freely of his or her time to support the community and has lived in Gilmer County for a minimum of five years. Anyone can be nominated and anyone can nominate someone.
The award will be presented in January at the Gilmer Chamber Annual Meeting. Ballots are available at the Chamber office at 696 First Ave. in East Ellijay, at gilmerchamber.com or call 706-635-7400 to request a ballot. Completed nominations must be received at the Chamber office by Friday, Dec. 1.
