Rec football playoffs near

Half of Gilmer’s six youth football teams wrapped up their regular seasons last Saturday.

Bobcat teams combined to post a 3-3 record, and the 7U squad completed its undefeated season by blasting Pickens, 32-6. Jayden Grizzle ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run, and teammates Peyton Ocobock, Austen Will, Leland Kendrick and Madden Hopkins also reached the end zone.

The 6U and 8U Bobcats kept Gilmer’s day humming along against Pickens as they notched respective victories of 6-0 and 49-6.

The 9U Cats dropped a 20-7 game to Pickens, and the 10U fell to the Dawson County Tigers, 32-13. Gilmer’s 11U team lost to Dawson as well, 19-6.

This Saturday the 6U (4-2 overall), 7U and 8U (3-3) will enjoy an off week before the playoffs begin Oct. 21.

Gilmer’s remaining three teams will wrap up the regular season Saturday. The 9U Cats (1-4) will travel to Chestatee to face the War Eagles at noon. Both the 10U (1-5) and 11U (4-2) will play games at Jasper Middle School against Pickens at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
