Adding the finishing touches
Gilmer Middle School students Chloe Dotson and Ethanie Dantin put the finishing touches on a crash dummy that will be used to test the effectiveness of seat belt designs being developed in Robert McCart’s homeroom. The dummies are made from bags of concrete and pipes wrapped with duct tape and topped with styrofoam heads. They will be fitted with indicators to measure shock and subjected to a simulated car crash Feb. 9 to determine the effectiveness of the seat belt prototypes. The class’ ongoing project took first place in Georgia’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest and is advancing to the national level of competition. See 1C of Mountain Life for story.
