Mrs. Doris Keener Sanford
Mrs. Doris Keener Sanford, 63, of Ellijay, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017.
She was born Feb. 24, 1953, in Gilmer County, to Gusta Rogers Keener and the late John Keener. She was a graduate of Gilmer High School, class of 1971, North Georgia College and Lincoln Memorial University. She retired from Gilmer County School System, where she had served as a high school English teacher, guidance counselor and principal of Clear Creek Middle School. She was a member of the Northcutt Baptist Church.
She is survived by husband, the Rev. Emuel Sanford; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Julie Sanford, of Ellijay, daughter and son–in-law, Jennifer and Jonathan Jenkins, of Bluemont, Va.; mother; Gusta “Whiz” Keener, of Ellijay; sister, Freda Cantrell, of Ellijay; five grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mattie Sanford Morris, of Ellijay; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn Cummings, the Rev. Edmund Miller, Art Williams, Alexander Rainey and Del Land officating.
Music was by Janice Burgess, First Baptist Church Choir and Lowell Davis.
Pallbearers were John Weissinger, Stan Berry, Carl Haas, Duck Thagard, Roger Powell and Tony Holloway.
Honorary pallbearers were Dylan Johnson, Johnny Henson, and Todd Arline.
Interment was in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
