Frederick Emerson ‘Fred’ Chastain
Mr. Frederick Emerson “Fred” Chastain, 68, of Ellijay, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
He was born July 11, 1948, in Jasper, to the late Olen Brown Chastain and Flora Roselle Holt Chastain. He was a graduate of Gilmer High School and was a self-employed plumber. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 53 years and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by wife of 45 years, Patricia Newton Chastain; daughter, Angelia Chastain, of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Tara Caylor, of Canton; grandchildren Makaila Caylor, Seth Caylor and Matthew Caylor; sisters and brother-in-law, Annette Hefner and Sara and Michael Cantrell, all of Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law, James and Karen Chastain, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Helen Nicholson, of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, from Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Cantrell and the Rev. Gene Childers officiating.
Music was by the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir.
Pallbearers were Wayne Holt, Johnny Chastain, Don Roberts, Matthew Caylor, Spencer Hefner, Jerry Wishon, Steve Siniard and Eddie Weaver.
A military graveside service immediately followed in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
