Murder case continued
The murder case against five defendants accused in the shooting death of Tails Creek resident Andrew Abernathy has been continued until Oct. 18 as a result of proceedings in Gilmer County Superior Court Tuesday morning.
Charged with murder and armed robbery, among several other crimes, are Ashanti Surayyah Brown of Marietta, Dominique Kreshawn Green of Marietta, Justin Heard of Smyrna, Christopher Ledford of Jasper and Tyler Antonio Nunez of Acworth.
Only Green appeared in court Tuesday. Heard is in the Floyd County Jail, Ledford is in the Pickens County Adult Detention Center and Nunez is in the Gilmer jail. One court officer told Judge Mary Beth Priest that Brown was being arrested that day.
Other charges against the defendants include aggravated assault, aggravated battery, burglary, home invasion, theft by taking, wearing a mask to conceal identity, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Abernathy, 21, was shot and died on Dec. 28, 2015.
