Fourth of July events planned
The registration deadline for entries in the annual Fourth of July Parade in downtown Ellijay – held on Saturday, July 2, this year at 6 p.m. – is this Friday, July 1. The parade fee is $25 for a float entry, $10 for car or truck and $50 for politicians.
Checks can be made payable to the Downtown Development Authority. Parade signups are taking place this week at City Hall at 197 N. Main St., by going to the Downtown Ellijay Facebook page (facebook.com/downtownellijay/?fref=ts) or by calling Crystal Nadolski at 770-354-2605.
The free Independence Day celebration downtown begins at 11 a.m. and features a Star-Spangled Beach Party in the city’s River Street parking lot. There will also be craft and food vendors, kids’ games and downtown store specials. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a Yeti cooler.
The music line-up has been announced for the River Street parking lot venue:
﹣ 2:30 p.m. – Local favorites Deuce and the Wildcards
﹣ 4 p.m. – Iconic cover band Slickfoot
﹣ 7 p.m. – Jazz-funk band Kharisma
A Public Safety Show with police cruisers and fire trucks, plus law enforecement and first-responder personnel, will be held Saturday from 3-6 p.m. at Harrison Park on McCutchen Street (across the bridge from Ellijay Primary School).
Fireworks to cap off the day are set to begin around 9:30 from behind Ellijay Primary.
