Whitestone woman dies in wreck on 515
An elderly Whitestone woman was killed Friday afternoon when she pulled into the path of a car traveling north on Highway 515 in southern Gilmer County, authorities said.
Ina Loretta Roberson, 79, of Whitestone was traveling south on 515 in a 2008 Kia Spectra when she failed to yield right of way and attempted to cross the northbound lane to get onto Whitestone Road, according to a Georgia State Patrol report. She was struck by Allen Rymer of Ellijay, driving a 1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, in the Kia’s passenger side door.
Deputy Coroner Melissa Waddell said it appeared Roberson died on impact. A trained off-duty nurse and then EMTs who arrived on the scene attempted to resuscitate Roberson without success, she said.
The collision occurred at 3:48 p.m., and was witnessed by a man from Douglasville. Rymer was taken by air ambulance to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta with “nonincapacitating injuries,” Trooper First Class Andrew Phillips said in the report. A Kennestone spokeswoman said Monday Rymer was not a patient at the hospital.
Comments posted on the Times-Courier’s Facebook page after the Feb. 26 wreck described Roberson as “an absolutely wonderful person,” “a good Christian lady” and “a very sweet, godly woman (who) always made you feel welcome.”
