Talking Rock woman killed in Hwy. 5 wreck
A Talking Rock woman was killed in a one-car accident June 21 after her car went off the road and hit an embankment before rolling over multiple times, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Carolyn Kincaid Garland, 74, was traveling south on Old Highway 5 South in Whitestone when the 2005 Mini Cooper she was driving “failed to maintain its lane when it traveled onto the right shoulder (of the road and) ... struck the embankment with its front” near the intersection with John’s Way.
The car overturned “multiple times” and Garland was ejected during one of the rollovers, the report states.
An Air Life helicopter arrived on the scene but was not used for transport.
The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office posted a notice of the wreck and resulting road closure at 10:31 a.m. on its Facebook page. Coroner Jerry Hensley reported he received a call at 10:49 and Deputy Coroner Melissa Waddell pronounced Garland dead at 11:15 a.m.
