Power outages reported
Strong, gusting winds overnight Monday and into early Tuesday caused power outages throughout Gilmer and Fannin, but primarily in Ellijay and north into the Cherry Log area, according to utility officials.
Amicalola EMC had a total of 2,803 members without power and one broken pole at its high outage point.
“Outages were county wide with the majority of members affected in the Boardtown Road and Blue Ridge Highway areas. There are only 43 members out now, 13 in Gilmer County,” said Stacey Fields, AEMC’s communication director, just before noon Tuesday.
Ron Ingram, area manager for Georgia Power, said between 130 to 150 customers were without power at one point in Ellijay and East Ellijay.
“We had some very high winds for brief periods of time, but I guess the good part was we got a little bit of rain,” he said. “We had some trees that caused some pole damage, a couple in Ellijay that were leaning and broke in some fashion ... we are changing some poles, in the process of that, (Tuesday) morning.
“The outages were due to the issues with the poles.”
