Missing man located
A Gilmer County man who went missing for a week was reportedly OK after letting local authorities know he was in Las Vegas.
Tom Jones left on the Friday morning of March 4 to reportedly go to Atlanta and buy a hot tub from an individual. He had neither been seen nor heard from after leaving, the sheriff’s office reported on its Facebook page March 6.
The sheriff’s office reported Jones and his Dodge Ram pickup were still missing on March 8, and then on March 11 announced Jones was “located” in Las Vegas.
“He has spoken with one of our detectives, as well as local authorities there,” the sheriff’s office posted.
Capt. Calvin Wilson said no criminal activity was involved regarding Jones’ absence.
“He just went to Las Vegas,” Wilson said Monday. “I don’t know if he’s back or not, but he was supposed to come by (Monday) morning and pick something up from the detective (working the case). But I don’t know if he ever came in.”
Contacted Monday afternoon, Jones said, “I wasn’t found, I called my wife.”
Jones’ wife was on Atlanta TV last week pleading for information about her missing husband.
“Let me get back with you on that,” Jones said when asked about his week away from home that captured local and statewide attention. He did not get back with the Times-Courier before a Tuesday deadline.
