Man hurt in industrial accident
A worker at West Block Company had to be taken by air ambulance to a hospital Tuesday after his head was caught between a machine press and a block, authorities said.
The man involved in the accident was 31 years old, according to Chief Tony Pricthett of the Gilmer County Public Safety department. Pritchett did not know the man’s name before the Times-Courier’s press deadline. He did say the 911 call reported the man’s head was caught between the sharp corner of a press machine and a block and that he suffered lacerations.
Capt. Frank Copeland of the sheriff’s office said the 911 call came in at 11:14 a.m. and the man was breathing when he was air-lifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
A spokesman with West Block did not release a name but said the man is recovering.
