Man charged in rape of student
An Ellijay man was charged with sexual crimes against a minor after he allegedly forced a Gilmer High School student into a trailer and raped her, authorities said.
Juan Raymundo Paiz, 22, of 237 Southside Church St., was charged Nov. 7 by the sheriff’s office with statutory rape, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, all felonies.
An incident report describes the victim as a 15-year-old female who was allowing Paiz to take her to Saturday school at the GHS campus on Oct. 29. The girl had “excessive amounts of tardies.” The report describes the alleged incident as “stranger to stranger” and Paiz used his “hands/fists, etc.” as weapons.
Detective David Camp wrote that he was informed by a Gilmer High teacher Oct. 31 of the alleged rape that took place at a trailer behind the hospital. A GHS counselor also is listed as a complainant.
Camp said the girl called a friend who also had Saturday school and asked if she could ride with her. The friend told her that her brother-in-law, Paiz, was taking her and she could ride with them.
When Paiz arrived to pick her up, the girl asked where her friend was and said Paiz told her, “Her mother told (her) that she could not go to school today.”
The girl said Paiz asked her what time she had to be at school, and she replied 8 a.m. Paiz told the girl he had “just bought a new house” and asked her if she wanted to see it. The girl said she told Paiz no and she was going to be late for school, the report states.
When Paiz said it would “only take a little while,” the girl told Camp she resisted again and told Paiz she would be late for school. At the trailer, the girl went inside with Paiz and he began to undress her against her will in a bedroom.
“She told Juan to stop, but Juan took her clothes off anyway,” the report states. “Juan left the bedroom, and she began putting her clothes back on (and) Juan returned and started taking her clothes off again.
The girl told Camp when Paiz was done assaulting her, she got dressed and he took her to Gilmer High. Later, she discovered she was bleeding and told her aunt when she got home, according to the report. The aunt told her she “needed to tell her grandparents or her parents what had happened.”
Camp and a high school employee took the girl to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to have a sexual assault evidence kit performed.
Paiz bonded out of the county jail last week, according to a spokeswoman.
