Ellijay to host hunting regulations public meeting Jan. 12
A public meeting designed for the public to provide input into the proposed 2017-2019 hunting seasons regulations will be hosted Jan. 12 by the Wildlife Resources Division of the state Department of Natural Resources.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lion’s Club Barn at 1729 S. Main St., and hunters and other interested persons are encouraged to attend. The Ellijay meeting is one of public meetings regarding the development of the proposed regulations.
“Science provides the foundation for development of hunting regulations. Additionally, public input is also important and valuable. It is our goal to maintain simple, easy-to-follow hunting regulations that are biologically appropriate while encouraging hunting participation, and maximizing management flexibility and opportunity,” said John Bowers, chief of the Game Management Section.
Any participant at a meeting may present data, make a statement or comment or offer a viewpoint or argument, either orally or in writing. Statements should be concise to permit everyone an opportunity to speak. Participants must register upon arrival and notify the registering official of their intent to give a statement.
