Big step in River Street water project
Terry Baker welds a section of water line casing that runs underneath the Georgia Northeastern Railroad track across River Street. Getting the railroad bore accomplished is a big step toward completion of a 4,000-foot line installation project, confirmed water authority director Gary McVey. The next big step will be running pipe along the River Street bridge. DOT permitting still remains and it could take months before work on the crossing begins, McVey said. “The bridge crossing will be the final big step and its our goal to have the pipe ready on both ends (first). The pipe on the west side of the bridge is done and ready to go. If we can get everything on the east side done all the way to the railroad, once the time comes to actually do the bridge we should be able to complete the project in very short order,” he added.
