T-C staffers earn press awards

Three staff members of the Times-Courier won awards in the 2017 Better Newspaper Contest at the recent Georgia Press Association annual convention in Jekyll Island.

Staff writer and education reporter Whitney Crouch won first place in education writing, second place in lifestyle feature column and second place in photo portfolio.

Sports editor Robbie Bills earned a third-place award in headline writing, and editorial department assistant April Teague won third place in lifestyle feature column.

“It’s always a thrill to hear our folks have won awards for their coverage and other writing,” said news editor Mark Millican. “In the case of Whitney, it’s a reward for all her hard work and icing on the cake as she prepares to leave us for another phase of her life.

“Our publisher, Andy Ashurst, and I agree we are fortunate to have several young writers who feel deeply about the community and its people, and go the extra mile when covering news and meetings, and in writing feature stories and columns. We get lots of positive comments from our readers about their efforts.”
