• This photo of what was called Hogshead Falls near Ridgeway on the Coosawattee River was submitted by Cheryl Barclay of Ellijay, who said it was taken by the late G.L Huff Jr. before the falls were covered up when Carters Lake was filled. Huff gave the photo to her father-in-law, Buddy Barclay. The Times-Courier is searching for an old photo of the tallest waterfall that is said to have been around 60 feet high but disappeared when the reservoir was filled.

T-C searching for photo of waterfall

The Times-Courier staff would like to enlist the help of readers who may have a photo, or know someone who has a photo, of the tallest waterfall on the Coosawattee River that was covered up when the Carters Lake reservoir was filled several decades ago.

The photo is being sought for a feature article about the history of the building of Carters Dam that will be in the upcoming magazine being published by the newspaper, Information Please 2017.

“We have received two photos of waterfalls on the Coosawattee before it became part of the lake,” said editor Mark Millican of posts received on the Times-Courier Facebook page.

“One is of Hogshead Falls near Ridgeway, and the other appears to be a set of high shoals. But we are aware there was another waterfall that some county residents have told us was around 60 feet high.”

Anyone who may have information about or a photo of the tallest waterfall is asked to call Mark at 706-635-4313 or send an email to tceditor@timescourier.com.
