Murphy woman killed in wreck
A Murphy, N.C., woman was killed in a two-car collision in Ellijay Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Betty Scott Hampton, 72, lost control of the Toyota Camry she was driving on Highway 382 just west of Sunlight Road and veered into the path of an SUV, said Gilmer County Coroner Jerry Hensley.
Hensley said Hampton died at the scene of the crash that was reported at 12:39 p.m., according to a Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Fire/EMA Chief Tony Pritchett said two people in the SUV with a Gilmer license plate were taken by ambulance to Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. He did not know their names.
A Georgia State Patrol report was not completed by Tuesday morning.
