Light Up Ellijay planning meeting welcomes volunteers
The Downtown Ellijay Business and Community Association (DEBCA) is starting early to plan for this year’s Light up Ellijay with a meeting for volunteers at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Gilmer Arts Playhouse.
“The goal is to involve as many people as possible in the planning. Considering last year’s huge crowds and resulting problems, at least some of the answers have to be found now,” said association member Mona Lowe.
DEBCA has begun the work by identifying the 2017 successes and shortcomings, beginning a plan for 2018 and organizing teams for the work ahead. Every team will need its own ideas, planning, resources and workers.
Everyone who loves Ellijay and Christmas is asked to either join a team, volunteer for small jobs later or sign up to get information when plans are finalized.
Teams will include: logistics, facilities, activities, decorations, costuming, entertainment, parade, marketing and volunteers.
