Georgia Mountain String Band returns to playhouse Aug. 4
The Georgia Mountain String Band kicks off the one-year anniversary celebration for downtown Ellijay’s George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
“They were part of our opening weekend and it was felt that their popularity demanded they be a part of the anniversary,” said Pam Burns, of the venue’s management team.
The Georgia Mountain String Band, a bluegrass project formed by Jason C. Waller, started as a pick-up band and quickly evolved into a solid, cohesive group of songwriters and players. The Decatur-based band works from a central playbook of country and bluegrass, as well as their own original material. Waller, David Stephens and Eddie Kesler bring original songs to the table, while Brendan Held has written melodies the band performs.
They mix bluegrass jam energy with the classic song structure of country music — city slickers tipping their hats to the old sounds and exploring new territories.
Their self-titled debut CD offers fine bluegrass harmonies and energetic enthusiasm. They will play anywhere, anytime and for anybody. When the Georgia Mountain String Band shows up to a gig there’s a lot of picking and even more grinning. The music keeps toes tapping and good times rolling.
