Basketry exhibit features eye-catching creations

At left, Jae Holstein, right, talks with Ashley Milam about one of the intricately-woven pine needle baskets on display during an April 13 opening reception for an exhibit at the Gilmer Arts Gallery showcasing Holstein’s artwork. The former Ellijay resident began creating the unique baskets using pine needles, string, wire and various natural fibers after first studying at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C.

“My baskets are a little different than the traditional way, in their form, shape and stitching,” Holstein said.
