Armed robbery suspects flee Blue Ridge, arrested in Ellijay

Three suspects face armed robbery charges after law enforcement officials say they robbed the AT&T store in Blue Ridge at gunpoint late Monday afternoon.

Capt. R.L. Stuart of the Blue Ridge Police Department said he was leaving the Home Depot parking lot around 6 p.m. when he noticed a black Mercedes SUV parked on the side of the lot at Scenic Crossing Plaza.

He said activity around the SUV caught his attention and he headed up the hill toward AT&T. The SUV was leaving about the same time. When Stuart got into the plaza parking lot, two AT&T store employees rushed out of the store saying they had just been robbed.

Stuart said he then chased the SUV south on Hwy. 515, catching up with the vehicle around Bullen Gap Road. He turned on his blue lights and the SUV stopped near the Ballewtown Road intersection.

Stuart instructed the female driver to get out of the car, but instead she fled south toward Ellijay. Speeds reached 100 mph as Stuart pursued the vehicle into Gilmer County through the Labor Day traffic.

Deputy Jacob Pless of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Department caught up with the pursuit and performed a PIT maneuver on the SUV just north of the Hwy. 52 intersection.

The female and two males in the vehicle were taken into custody, checked at a local hospital and then transported to the Fannin County Jail.

The two males are accused of entering the store wearing bandannas as masks and brandishing handguns. At one point, they forced the AT&T employees on their knees and put a gun to one’s back, Stuart said. A small amount of cash and a bag full of cell phones taken during the robbery were recovered, as were two handguns and bandannas.

Arrested were:

• Melisse Ann Morman, 38, of 3627 State Street Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana;

• Rashad Steven Darius Morman, 20, of 2304 Francis Ave., Chalmette, Louisiana; and,

• Hammond Dontel Morman, 22, of 2304 Francis Ave., Chalmette, Louisiana.

Stuart said all three will be charged in connection with the armed robbery and other charges are pending. All remained held without bond in the Fannin County Jail Tuesday morning.
