A Gilmer County fire truck slid off Newport Drive on the Eagle Mountain side of Coosawattee River Resort around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning in response to a wreck call. Sgt. Jason Anderson of the GCFD reported the fire truck was coming down a long hill at around 20-25 mph. "The trucks have an exhaust brake and it 'kicked in' coming down the hill and made the truck start sliding on the wet pavement," he said. "The driver tried to steer the slide down the hill and steer the truck into a driveway, but the truck jumped over it." Three firefighters were inside the truck but no one was injured. The initial wreck call turned out to be cancelled, Anderson said.
