Child struck by car
A 4-year-old Ellijay boy was struck by a car in town Tuesday and sustained a leg injury, authorities said.
The boy “darted into the roadway from a private parking area” into the path of a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport driven by a 34-year-old Ellijay woman on Aug. 20, according to a Georgia State Patrol crash report.
The boy’s injury was described as “non fatal” but “incapacitating.” The female driver was traveling northbound on North Main Street just before 5 p.m. and was not injured. She was doing the speed limit of 25, was “not distracted” and was not suspected of drinking or drug use, the report stated.
Police Chief Edward Lacey said he saw the child briefly before he was flown out by air ambulance to Egleston Medical Center in Atlanta.
“It appeared to be from the shin bone down to his left foot,” he said of the instep area. “They wanted to get him to a pediatric hospital as quick as possible.”
The woman was not charged in the accident.
“She actually stopped and rendered aid,” Lacey added.
