Gilmer High’s Jackson McVey was on the court with the state’s best and proved he had every right to be there.
The state’s elite hoopers gathered over the weekend for the annual Georgia Basketball Coaches Association’s Jr./Sr. All-Star Game. McVey took the court in the junior game last Friday at College Park’s Gateway Arena, and the 7’ 1” center was named Most Valuable Player at its conclusion.
McVey led all scorers with 18 points and added eight rebounds and two assists to help his side to a 101-89 victory.
ESPN has McVey rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 9 ranked player in Georgia. He has received scholarship offers from Kennesaw State, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky.
In the days leading up to the all-star game, McVey was named to the Class 3A all-state first team by Sandysspiel.com, which bills itself as “the leader in GHSA basketball coverage.” Additionally, McVey received an honorable mention to its all-classification team.
This is McVey’s latest accolade after he was selected to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s Class 3A all-state first team last month.
McVey was Region 7’s leader in points (26.2), rebounds (15.7) and blocks (2.7) per game. He was also its most efficient scorer and shot 65.3 percent from the field.
He has scored 1,404 points during his GHS career. He is in possession of two Bobcat career and game records, plus four seasonal records.
McVey will spend the spring honing his game playing for Team Curry on the Under Armour circuit based out of Charlotte, N.C. They will face top-tier competition in tournaments along the East Coast. He will also attend individual national camps to gain more exposure in front of college recruiters.
